The Lord Mayor of London
Alastair King DL
The Rt Hon. The Lord Mayor of London, 2024–25
Alastair King DL is the 696th Lord Mayor of the City of London, a role that sees him serve as a global ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector. With a career spanning law, finance, entrepreneurship, and public service, he brings a rare blend of commercial insight and civic leadership to the office at a time when global confidence, sustainable investment, and innovation are more important than ever.
A qualified solicitor, Alastair began his career at Baker & McKenzie, working in both London and Asia, before transitioning into early-stage venture capital. He went on to lead a private equity buyout firm and later founded Naisbitt King Asset Management in 2016, specialising in bespoke fixed-income portfolios, including ESG and Sharia-compliant strategies. His leadership across multiple financial firms, including chairing several City institutions, has earned him a reputation for innovation, pragmatism, and long-term thinking.
Alastair has been deeply involved in the civic life of the City of London for over two decades. He was first elected to the City’s Court of Common Council in 1999, became Deputy for Queenhithe Ward in 2006, and was elected Alderman in 2016, securing re-election with overwhelming support. He served as Sheriff of London in 2022–23 before being elected Lord Mayor in 2024. His mayoral theme, “Growth Unleashed,” champions responsible risk-taking, the acceleration of new technologies, and a more inclusive and representative City of London.
As Lord Mayor, Alastair has led international business delegations, including trade missions to key markets such as Australia, where he advocated for infrastructure-led growth and strengthened investment ties. He has positioned London as a resilient, future-focused global financial centre—open for business, driven by talent, and rooted in values of sustainability and innovation.
Beyond his financial and civic achievements, Alastair is committed to charitable and community work. He chairs the British Liver Trust and the Haringey OnSide Youth Zone project, is a trustee of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and Morden College, and is actively involved in numerous Livery Companies. His leadership style is collaborative, forward-thinking, and driven by a belief in the power of finance to generate real-world impact.
Alastair King’s tenure as Lord Mayor reflects the evolving role of the City in a changing world—where global collaboration, technological transformation, and inclusive growth are not just ambitions, but imperatives.
